HORTICULTURE
WELLINGTON SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING
The" thirtieth annual meeting of the Wellington Horticultural Society was held in the Dominion Farmers' Institute on Tuesday evening. Dr. Arnold' Izard presided. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe were present, and there was a very good attendance of members and the public. '■-.'•' First consideration was given to the annual report and balance-sheet, the salient points of which have'already been published. . The chairman remarked that the year had resulted in a slight loss, in part duo to the economic position, and secondly to the trial of two;day shows. Whether two-day shows should be continued tor the present would be for tha meeting to .discuss, The increase in membership was very gratifying, but there was room i'or many more. .. ' . Mr. H. A. Fox also spoke of the need of a still larger membership and of the mutual benefits to society and individual through membership. Mr. Eos expressed the 'opinion, that, in view 6i the. present position and the cost of running two-day shows—at least ' £25 more than one-day shows—the committee should consider giving them up for the present. Mr. N. A. Grant formally moved that the committee should recommend to revert to one-day shows during tho ; coming season; and,' with very little discussion, this was agreed to.
