SCOTTISH CLUB
Over an eight-mile course at Karori on Saturday, Scottish Club members had a good run. Three packs were decided upon —slow, medium/ and fast. ' The traillayers, Jackson, Costello, and France, led the runners a merry chase through ponds, creeks, and hilly country. V. Silver, of the fast pack, set a very hot pace, and caught the medium and slow packs about v mile from Makara road. Two miles from home all runners were united, and a good pace was maintained until about 300 yards from the Council Chambers. Here a run-m was lield, with some thirty-one runners lining up. In a stirring finish S. J. Sweeney headed C. P. Rogers by three yards, with S C. Ferguson beating B. Woodcock on the tape for third place. Ferguson is the wcll-kuown sprinter: from Masterton. He has joined up with Scottish for. the ensuin" season. Officials for the day were Mr. \V J Walter, starter, and Mcsdames Needham and Payton judges. Next week at Lyall Bay the three mile scaled handicap with be run. This race gives the novices" their iiist try-out against | the club's seasoned runners. The race is to start at 2.45 p.m.
