THE WAR AND "SHIRKERS."
A contention that there are many thousands of men in this country who are shirking 'to-day was advanced by Mr. W. H. Field in the House of Representatives last night. "There are many men," said Mr. Field, "who have not registered, men who. have been drawn in the ballot and have not responded." Notwithstanding this, however, the Government was taking the last sons of widows, and men ' were being taken from their farms. If this continued the country would not be able to stand it.
