FEDERAL POLITICS. STATEMENT BY MR. DEAKIN.

Mr. Deakin, the Federal Premier, speaking at a meeting of the Australian Natives Association, said it seemed to him some time ago that it would be worthy of ambition to try and reduce the three parties in Parliament to two, but the only manner in which ho had managed to work out that sum in arithmetic was to increase the paTties to four. They had now become three again, and must remain that number so long as the people and States chose.
