EVADING TRANSPORT ACT.
CARRIERS PURCHASE GOODS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The practice of some carriers of becoming the owners of the goods they carry in order to circumvent the provisions of the Transport Act was the subject of comment this evening by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. E. Semple. "The question had been raised by the four new licensing authorities, who had recently held a meeting/ in Wellington," Mr. Semple said, "and it was stated that there were serious effects on the licensing of goods services. I have asked the licensing authorities to make inquiries regarding all such cases and to report on them to the Transport Department," he added. "Consideration will then be given to the question of bringing these services under the licensing system."
