APPLE DISPLAY.

N.Z. GOODS IN LONDON. j (By Our London" Correspondent.) The lounge of New Zealand House, presented a most colourful and attractive scene appealing to more sensethan one, for the smell of the beautiful apples ( displayed was one to make the month water. The display formed a back ground to attract not only New Zcalanders, but people of other countries, and the High Commissioner had no difficulty in Wing the attention of those present when, after'telling the world about our Dominion's apples, n rt introduced Miss Marie Ney, the *ew Zealand actress, who has had so notable a success, in none more than her Portia in "The Merchant of Venice," now being produced at the Alhambra. ' Miss Ncy declared herself glad to be there for two reasons—because she was a New Zcalander and because she loved apples. She declared that Shakespeare, ehe was sure, had had no play without mentioning; apples, and, quoting Antonio, in "The Merchant," told us he had talked of a "goodly apple rotten to the core," adding hastily but very firmly that that was, of course, not a New Zealand apple. The audience was amused by bir James' story of the millionth case ot apples which he and Mr. 11. Turner, New Zealand Fruit Board representative in Europe, went to present to the Prince of Wales at St." James' Palace. When the case was opened the apples were not the fine dessert fruit which they believed the case contained, but cooking apples—very eour. The Prince was quite amiable over the contretemps, and of course the mistake was rectified. Two other interesting personalities present were Miss Oliver Kay and Miss Beseie Gaisford, the golf champions, who have just arrived. They were warmly welcomed by a host of New Zealand friends who had come for the ceremonial opening of the apple season. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Tripp, Mrs. and Miss Guy i Williams, Miss;. Jessie Reid, Mr. ,J. A. ' Campbell, who spoke of apples and New Zealand with a passing reference to Eve, Dr. and Mrs. MeNaughtoii Christie and Miss Bailey, Mr. Cecil Wray, Mrs. Patrick and Miss Tennant, Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Myers and Miss Lola Myers, Miss Stella Murray, and many others lin the New Zealand community in I London.
