BOARD OF EDUCATION.

| The ordinary meeting1 of the Auckland Board of Education was held this afternoon, Mr L. J. Bagnall (chairman) presiding.

Resignations. —The Chairman reported that the following resignations had been received: Mr W. F. J.'ohns, pupil teacher, Karangahake school; Miss E. M. Lyons, junior assistant, Rangiaohia; Mrs Ewart, sewing tea'eher, Ruapuke; and Mrs Turner, sewing teacher, Awatuna..

Selection of Teachers. —The following report of the Teachers' Selection Committee Avas presented:—"(l) Your Committee recommend that the following appointments should be authorised by the Board:—Mr S. J. Elliott to be teacher of Maraetai anc! Ness Valley schools; Mr A. W. B. Davis to temporary charge of Tairua Block school; Mr F. J. Mullins from Tairua Block to Waiokaraka school temporarily, pending appointment of assistant master; Mr J. Hook to be teacher of Weka Weka "aided" •school; Mr N. T. Lambourne to be second assistant master Devorrport school; Miss C. A. Edmistion to temporary charge of Te Pahi No. 2 school; Miss M. x\. Quaid to be assistant teacher Aratapu school; Miss Caroline Nixon to be assistant teacher Huntly school; Miss A. M. Patterson as substitute teacher to Ruatangata West school; Miss T. M. Cooper as substitute assistant to Coromandel scftool; Mr P. 11. Burton, pupil teacher, from Kuaotunu lo Karangahake school: Mr F. J. McKay, pupil teacher, from Whangarei Heads to Driving Creek; Miss M. E. Bluck, pupil teacher, from Taupiri to Buckland school; Miss M. L. Soper, pupil teacher, to Taupiri school; Miss M. E. Mandeno, pupil teacher, to Manawaru school; Mrs A. 'Whiting to be sewing teacher Opitonui school. (2) Your Committee recommend that applications for the position lof assistant master of the Waiokaraka school be invited by advertisement from teachers classified D 3 or higher. (3) Your Committee recommend that the Tararu SchooT Committee be asked whether they have any suggestion to offer regarding the appointment of a first assistant to that school. (4) Your Committee have examined the applications (seven in number) received ,in janswer to advertisement for the position of first assistant master at the Beresford-st. school, and recommend that the names and qualifications of the undernamed candidates be submitted to the City Schools Committee: Messrs. 11. G. Cousins, A. J. Hill, and A. H. Shroff. M.A. (5) Your Committee recommend that ihe appointment of a pupil-tea-cher to the Papakura Valley No. 2 school be deferred for receipt of information asked from the School Committee as to the probable attendance at the school. (6) Your Committee recommend that the engagement of the sewing teacher at the Buckland school should be terminated, in view of the employment of a female pupil teacher at the school."

The report was adopted. The members present besides the Chairman were Messrs R. Farrell, S. Luke, J. Blades, W. Lambe, McLeod and Dr .McArthur. Reports.—The reports of the Chairman and of the Finance Committee, dealing with 'routine matters, were adopted. Canvassing for Appointments.—Mr Blades «"ave notice to move at next meeting 0 of the Board. "That rule 45 of the Board's regulations be rescinded and the fallowing substituted in lieu thereof: Any teacherl or any other person for and on behalf of the teacher, canvassing members of the Board or members of a school committee regarding an aT>poslvtment under the Board or interfering therein ■shall disqualify the teacher^as a, candidate for that appointment."
