THE WESTIAND WAR MEMORIAL.
Bokitika, February 14. The foundation stone of the Westlano War Memorial was laid in a pelting rain. There was a large concourse of people f iom all pirts, including numerous excursionists from as far north as Reef ton, there being fully 2000 present, and the number would certainly have been doubled under more favorable weather conditions. The Premier, referring to the condition of the elements, said it was a slight niatteV compared with the hardships endured by the troops on the South African veldt. The stone was laid with full Masonic ceremony.Mr Seddon bein^ Acting Grand Master representing the New Zealand Grand Lodge. He made a lengthy and patriotic speech, and was heartily applauded. The Volunteers paraded in strong force under Major Wolfe.
