RESIGNATIONS HANDED IN

MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS VOICE APPRECIATION

The Acting-Town Clerk, Mr J. F. Eames. yesterday received the resignation of the Mayor, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and of Crs, J. W. Beanland and J. K. Archer, who have resigned to contest the mayoralty. At the same time the resignation of Cr. C. E. Jones, who has been unable to take his seat on the council because of ill-health, was handed in. Mr Sullivan said yesterday morning that he extremely regretted he had not had a suitable opportunity of meeting all the outside staff of the City Council before resigning from the mayoralty. He wished to convey to the staff his appreciation, not only during the time he was mayor of the city, but throughout his whole term as councillor, for their loyalty in their work, and for their readiness to help in every way. On many occasions and at all times they had placed themselves at his disposal in efforts for relief. He considered that the City Council was fortunate in having the class of men that it had in its employ, for their team work had always been satisfactory, and they had been loyal to the council and to himself. In many ways he sincerely regretted that he would not be able to continue as mavor, but would still look forward to beeping In personal touch with the council staff, many of whom he felt he could look upon as personal friends. In their letters Of resignation the Mayor and Mr Archer expressed their appreciation of the help given them by the council employees. In his letter Mr Jones mentions that his resignation follows the advice of his doctors.
