ONE DROWNED.

ANOTHER MISSING. MANGATANGI TRAGEDY. CAUGHT IN STORM WATER ? (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") PUKEKOHE, this day. Apparently caught by storm water, one man was drowned and another is missing at Mangatangi, The victim is a man named Smith, who was employed at Hohneck's mill at Mangatangi, and the missing man is Mr. F. A. Mikoz, of 2, Bell wood Avenue, Mount Eden, who was employed at the Mangatangi relief camp as a cook. Both men were living in a hut on the flat alongside the Mangatangi River. They were reported missing to-day, and were last seen alive on Friday last at Mangatangi. As they did not turn up to work yesterday, inquiries were instituted, and when their hut was examined it was found that their good clothes were still there. It was also found that there had been three feet of water in the hut, which must have risen from the river during the height of the storm. If they had stepped out of the hut, it was revealed, they would have stepped into over six feet; of rushing water. To reach high ground, they would have liad to swim about live chains, but if they stepped into the water during darkness, they would have probably lost their sense of direction. A search was begun by the police to-day and resulted in the finding of Smith's body on the flat about a quarter of a mile downstream from the hut. A search is now being made for Mikoz, but so far it has been unsuccessful.
