Bricker, of Ohio, hopefully astride the Republican elephant, the elephant being the traditional cartoonist's symbol for the Republican Party and the donkey for the Democratic Party. The ball and chain are supposed to represent Governor Bricker’s main liability : the belief that he has only been astraddle the issues of the day.
