CARGO OF HAY DESTROYED
Over 30,000 bales of NZ hay that was being shipped to Australia has been lost. .
The vessel had ; barely cleared port before it was found that the cargo had caught fire. Seawater was pumped into the holds and the ship put in at Lyttleton where the local fire brigade was given the task of disposing of the wet hay when it attracted innumerable flies.
