Administrative Officers I - The administrative officers of the Waiouru military camp will be as follows :— . Commandant, Colonel C. G. Powles, C. D. 5.0.; adjutant, Captain G. F. Yerex, N.Z.S.C.. paymaster, Lieutenant D. D. Purves; assistant paymaster, Lieutenant A. W. C. Gorrie; records officer, Lieutenant C. B. McDonald; ordnance officer, Lieutenant R. J. Gamble; quartermaster, Major R. W. Haddow, D.C.M.; assistant quartermaster, Lieutenant F. U. Booth, N.Z.P.S.; supply and transport officer, Captain S. Mellows, M.8.E.; mechanical transport officer. Lieutenant J. Cruse; supply officer, Lieutenant R. C. G. Moore ; transport officer, 2nd Lieutenant J. A. Watt: senior medical officer. Lieu-tenant-Colonel J. H. G. Robertson, C.8.E., M. 8., Ch.B., F.R.C.S. (Edin.) Colonel Powles enlisted for service in the South African War with the 4th New Zealand, Contingent and in 1901 he received his commission in the field. After his return to New Zealand he was appointed lieutenant in the New Zea- 1 land Staff Corps. He went overseas in August, 1914, as brigade major with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade. He was wounded. In December, 1915, he was appointed officer commanding the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Regiment, and in March, 1916 became assistant adjutant and QuartermasterGeneral to the Australian and New Zealand -Mounted Division, with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He served throughout the Sinai-Palestine campaign from June, 1918, and in France. He returned to New Zealand in 1919, and retired from the active list in 1927. Colonel Powles holds the Queen’s Medal with four clasps for service in South Africa, and during the Great War and was mentioned four times in dis patches. The C.M.G. was . conferred on him in 1918 and his other, decorations include the D.S.O. and the Order of the Nile. He is the author of the official history of the part played by New Zealand mounted troops in Palestine.
