No. 10 INDEPENDENT SQUADRON —MURCHISON.

This unit sprang into life one night about nine months ago after a visit to the township by Sgt. Dunnett. The news of an A.T.C. wing spread like wildfire, and within three weeks nearly every boy within a radius of twenty miles had enrolled, bringing the strength of our unit to some thirty-two cadets. Most of the cadets were soon fitted .with uniforms, and lectures, drill, etc., commenced by our 1 instructor, Sgt. Dunnett, and our 0.C., P/O Masters. So far we have run three dances which have been very successful.

A short time ago we had a weekend on station at Nelson, and although it rained continually, a very enjoyable and interesting time was had by all.

Shortly after being promoted to F/Sgt., Sgt. Dunnett left us to take up duties elsewhere. Cpl. Inwood is carrying on the good work as our instructor and is very popular with the boys.

We are now the proud possessors of a Hawker “Tomtit” which was kindly given to us by the personnel of the Nelson Air Station. Several of our cadets are going on an N.C.O. course at Ohakea at the beginning of November and we wish them every success. We are very proud of Cadet Ford, our representative at the A.T.C. shoot at Wigram during Labour weekend, who helped to put our name on the map by coming second.

So far the attendance at parades has been excellent, although many cadets have long distances to travel. We hope this will continue and keep us an efficient unit.

The “Observer” particularly desires to obtain a complete record of excadets now in the armed forces. All Units and readers are invited to forward particulars of mobilizations, postings, awards and casualties to Box 1322, Christchurch.
