MARTON DETACHED FLIGHT: No. 9 SQUADRON, WANGANUI.

Our first parade, which was held in the Marton District High School on sth June, 1943, had an attendance of 18. During the year various Air Force personnel have lectured the Flight and instructors have given instruction on such subjects as Armament, Drill, and other Air Force subjects. The Flight has attended two week-end camps at Ohakea, and some cadets attended summer camps at Milson. Four cadets have attended N.C.O. courses at Ohakea. The Flight received a visit from Captain H. A. Hale-Munro and Chief Petty Officer Timlin of the Wellington Branch of the Navy League Sea Cadet Corps, who gave an interesting talk on their work. Seven cadets participated in a cross-country steeplechase on Captain Arkwright’s property.

Four cadets have been mobilized into the R.N.Z.A.F. and three are waiting to be mobilized. The Flight has a Rolls Royce Kestrel Engine mounted near the Flight Room, and is available for the instruction of the cadets. P.T. and drill are done in the School Assembly Hall, and on Thursday nights an instructor lectures in the Flight Room. The Flight’s average attendance for the year is 90.1%, and seven cadets have attended parades over the year missing only one parade. Cadets have had the opportunity of having flights with A.T.C. Touring Flight at Wanganui airport. The strength of the Flight has now risen to 32.
