The Christmas theme was Immanuel "God with us". Members assisted with hymns, prayers, and Bible Readings. Items were given by Mesdames J. C. Whyte and S. Waton and Miss L. Robinson. A cake made by Mrs K. J. Pucker and iced by Mrs Mcllroy was much appreciated. Bring and Buy realised £6 for a sjiecial fund. Mrs T. IVthick presented with a gift for her service as treasurer over a |»eriod of years.

Timaru, annual meeting, September. All officers re-elected, excepting the secretary, Mrs Delk'W. who was thanked tor fourteen years of faithful service. Mrs R. Wills appointed secretary. Mrs C. Angus delegate to N.C.W., a jHisition Mrs Wills held for a number of years. The October meeting was very interesting when a discussion took place on the evils of gambling. Sailors’ Rest retried a particularly busy month. The crew of the submarine Andrew made full use of our Rest for showers, baths, cups of tea. A sea-farerers’ service was attended at St. .Marvs Church by invitation of the Archdeacon. On Octol>er 15th 34 members travelled to fairlie to a meeting arranged by Mrs Cook, a former President of the branch there. Buckingham chaired the following programme: Pianoforte solos, Alison Hutt, Karen White, Peter Hutt, Gaiy White, Isabel Nossitou, Stephanie Meyer; violin solo, I>ester Leighton; recorder solo, Marion McKenzie, piano accordion, Ter.nifer Whiting; vocal solo, Phillip Kllen; vocal duet, Phillip Kllen and Mramwell Manson; elocutionary items, Marion Man son, Marion McKenzie, Fergus McKenzie; dances. Shirley Tiffen, Valerie Hunt. The accompanists, Mesdames M. Joyce and A. McHandy were presented with flowers, as aiso was Mrs Duckett. A collection was taken for "Save the children Fund’’. Afternoon tea was served with soft drinks and ice cream for the children.
