A TRIBUTE

MISS G. A. DREW, M.A., J.P. On March 3rd at New Plymouth there passed front our sight a great Temperance stalwart in Miss Gertrude A. Drew, M.A., J.P. She has left a record of high ideals nobly carried forward. Site lived her life victoriously—a full Christian life of devoted service to her Saviour and for every good cause. Her service was unstinted. As a High School teacher her influence over her pupils was • always uplifting. She loved her work, never sparing herself for the benefit of those whom she taught. Her father was a Baptist minister, and she was taught from infancy the value of total abstinence. She took an active part in the W.C.T.U., first as local Secretary, then President, District President, and for a time Dominion Superintendent of Scientific Temperance. During that period she wrote a fine article for the “Teachers’ Gazette,” setting out principles of total abstinence. Miss Drew was at one time Vice-President of the New Plymouth High School Old Girls’ Association, a Dominion President of the Baptist Missionary Union, a member of the National Council of Women, a valued member of the Baptist Church, and a life deaconess. For some years Miss Drew was a Welfare Officer. Through her efforts, to a great extent, the Seamen’s Rest at New Plymouth came into existence, and she was a member of the committee until recently. Although in failing health, she tenderly cared for her sister, the late Mrs. Hohy, who passed away a year ago.

We have lost a comrade beloved. For her it is glory in her Redeemer’s presence. May we follow* in her footsteps as she followed Christ.
