Dominion President's Message

My Dear Fellow Members, The months are steadily going by and as we glance backwards, we can see what our toil has accomplished; some of us may be disappointedothers may be filled with a spirit of thanksgiving. So much of our success depends upon our own outlook. The joyous heart accomplishes that which it sets out to do, because joy is contagious. I have been away visiting some of our Unions and what a jov it was to meet such grand 1 stalwarts of this W.CT.I J. warfare. But there were some who had almost despaired, on account of the hardness of the way. There is a beautiful story, which we know so well that perhaps its very familiarity tends to dim our awareness to its depth of meaning—Mary, who bioke the box of spikenard over the feet of our Master. There were plenty of critics; plenty of folk who said that Mary could have done better than to waste good ointment Some were indignant ai her effort, but Jesus said, “Let her alone, she hath done what she couid.” or in other words, as one writer iias it, “Let her alone, Mary hath given to the very limit of her capacity.” To the limit—happy and wise Mary. Are we giving to the limit? The limit of prayer, the limit of faith, the limit of work ? If so, then open up your barns, for Ctod is no man’s debtor: your reward it on the way, and it will he the si/e of your faith. I was greatly heartened at one Union 1 attended. The President gave out pledge membership cards, with the injunction that we come to the next meeting with the card duly signed by a new member. The reaction to her request was amusing, hut-had we not pledged ourselves to fight “till death or victory" and here was death to our pride or our laziness! The venture was successful, buttonholing someone deliberately was exhilarating and stimulating—surely we went to the limit and God gave the increase That is ever the way Oir Cause is right; we do not need to fear ridicule;

we need not smart under the lash of criticism, for we are a band of Christian women seeking to break the iron chains that bind men and women to the Liquor Trade and other social evils. We arc moving steadily forward, so let cheer as* we light. You will notice our “White Ribbon” is smaller in size, but not in good Temperance reading matter: be sure to pass on your copy to someone else when you have finished reading its pages. We want many more readers and many more subscribers —try to gain one. One of our WR, agents sells the Ribbon monthly to customers —a very good idea and worth copying. May we strive to our limit. Yours in Christian fellowship, CONSTANCE TOOMER.
