PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

My Dear Comrades, Convention is o\er and we have entered once again on a new year of service. There are some changes in the personnel of the Dominion Executive. We welcome to the Executive our new Dominion Cor res] ending Secretary, Mrs. Chesswas; Acting-Editor of the White Ribbon, Mrs. V. Singleton; Business Manager, Miss E. Appleby. There are ten changes in Superintendents of Departments, which please note carefully when you receive the Handbook. It is interesting to find that two former “Y” members have now taken on the work of Departmental Superintendents. The new Business Manager also started in the work as a “Y” member. We welcome all these new officers most cordially. The very sincere appreciation of the work of retired officers and Superintendents has been expressed by Convention. The need for more aggressive Temperance work among children has been again stressed. We must begin at the right end of the problem of drunkenness and >ave the child from Incoming a drunkard. “As the hope of the earth is the springtime, so the ho|>e of the Race is the child.” Where\er possible try to start even a small group of Band of Hope or L.T.L. The Literature Dept, will supply you with helps for the work. The Five-Year Plan is our “ Plan of Work ” and it provides plenty of scope for originality i.i winning new members, W.R. subscribers, L.W.R. members, and generally extending the great work of the Union. 1 have been asked what should be done in the event of a Union being in danger of lapsing through lack of officers or other cause. No Union may "laps*” itself. Where a difficulty arises, the District Officers must be advised immediately and they should try to provide officers or some assistance until the Union is established again. The District officers should report the matter to the Dominion Corresponding Sccretarv

and, if possible, an Organiser will U* sent to assist. It is a serious matter to allow a Union to lapse. It has often taken the best years of a woman's life to build up and maintain a Union, and each officer should endeavour to always have a woman in training to take her place should occasion arise. Remember “discouragement ” is the chief weajmn in Satan’s armoury. 1 would i>ass on to you an encouraging thought which I received from an Faster study. “ They overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb." “This is the basis of our opposition to Satan.
