AUCKLAND DISTRICT A delightful Christmas party took the place of the November meeting. All Unions were represented. Christmas carols, solos and recitations made up the programme. A short address on conditions in California was given by Mr. Diver, recently returned from a long l>enod there. A presentation was made to Mr. and Mrs. J. \V. Long, on behalf of the Executive, in appreciation of their five years of devoted service at the Maori Girls’ Hostel. The new Matron was also welcomed. Ponaonby had a new member at their October meeting and one by transfer. (Piesident, Mrs. Clark.) SOUTH AUCKLAND DISTRICT Cambridge had an interesting talk on Maori Day from Captain Smith (S.A.) on her exjteriences among the East Coast Maoris. Several articles of beautiful Maori carved work were exhibited, and the meanings explained. Te Kuiti Maori Union held its annual meeting. Sister Nicholls led Devotions. Good attendance. Poll literature to be distributed. Telegram from Maori Organiser re meeting with local |I.P. before polling day. Tauranga also held animal meeting, when officers elected were: President, Mrs. A. A. Hensley; vice-presidents, Mesdames Christian, Bulmer. Foxcroft, and Williamson; secretary, Mrs. Clarkson; treasurer, Mrs. Maunder. TARANAKI DISTRICT District Executive met at New Plymouth on Maori Day, when plans of work were discussed. The New Plymouth Union meeting was held in the afternoon. Miss Yearbury gave an interesting talk on her work among the Maoris. Mrs. Cox rejiorted on her meeting with the World President. \ ocal solos were given. The annual meeting was held in November. Several members were welcomed back after illness. All officers were re-elected except the treasurer, Mrs. Norwood, who, after many years of service, i; succeeded by Miss Palmer. Season’s greetings were exchanged. MARLBOROUGH DISTRICT Springlands annual meeting in November. Ad Union and departmental reports piesented, and maintenance of the work shown. President, Mrs. Underhill, gave a short address AM officers re elected, with the addition of Miss O. Hlick as corre-jKinding secretary. NORTH CANTERBURY DISTRICT Annual meetings are retorted by Spreydon. Riccarton, Woolston. Tinwald, Sydenham and North Brighton. All report good work done during the year and reported at the meeting. Officers elected at Spreydon were: President. Mrs. Nisbet; vice-presidents, Horwood. Genunell, Lockwood, and McKenzie; su|>erintendents also being appointed. Arrangements were made for a Quiz Competition for Addington School pupils, lor a Concert at the Women’s Reformatory, and a Christmas Party at the Mental Hospital.

Tinwald elected as officers: President, Mrs. Miller: vice-presidents, Mesdames Hopwood and Stevenson; secretary, Mrs. Oakley; treasurer, Mrs. Harkness. Su|>erintendents were a'so apjiointed. President gave a short talk on ‘‘Church Attendance.” Sydenham re-elected all officers. In November- they bad a C.R. function when Mrs. Hodder, District C.R. Superintendent, gave a short talk to the mothers while the times were having their party fare. Hokitika rei*>rts faithful work during the year, though attendance at meetings is small. Contact with Greymouth is maintained, where a few earnest workers carry on, praying always for the success of our cause. North Brighton enjoyed the rc|«rt of the District Convention at Ashburton given by Mrs. Ellis, es|>ccially the references to the visit of the World President, the “Temperance Bay” during Family Week at Ashburton, and a visit to the woollen mills. Twenty-six years of Hand of Hope work are to be celebrated. Officers elected at the annual inee* .g were: President, Mrs. Noonan; vice-presidents, Mesdames Golman and Crabbe; secretary, Mrs. Mcllwraith; treasurer, Mrs. Hardman. A travel talk on Scotland and Ireland, illustrated with photographs, given by Mrs. Bond was much enjoyed. The Birthday Social was a happy occasion, each branch of the Union doing something special. Reefton observed Maori Day, holding a special Prayer session. Literature for distribution purchased. OTAGO DISTRICT Annual meetings at Lawrence and Kaikorai are rejiorted. All officers re-elected at Lawrence. A press report of the Sailors’ Rest at Timaru read by secretary. The birthdav of one of the '‘shut-in” members of Kaikorai was also the meeting day, and the Union met at the home of her daughter. Posies were presented to the mother, Mrs. Hunter. Officers elected were: President, Mrs. Flett; vice-president, Miss Dobson; secretary, Mrs, Mackenzie; treasurer, Mrs. McDonald. Mrs. Ramage, lately returned from a twelve months* stay in Scotland, was warmly welcomed. The wonderful success oi L.T.L. members in the Temperance Exam* reiiorted. Two Gold and one Silver Medal, the Challenge Shield, five passes in Ire - paratory, three in junior, nine in It termediate, one second-year Intermediate, made up the splendid result of the work done m preparation.
