AMONG THE DEPARTMENTS

ANTI-GAMBLING I)eir Sisters, Heading in the “ New Zealand Herald " for July 2nd, I noted that a suggestion has been made to Parliament, in a private petition, for a State Lottery to be established in New Zealand. • Tins is against all our principles and platform. The petitioner goes on to state all benefits of such a scheme, which are too lengthy to print in our columns. 1 Mease do not do anything just now, but keep an eye on the work of the “ House,” and, if such a Bill comes forward, protest at once to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, and to the member for your electorate. Yours in the fight for righteousness, MRS. M. PIRRETT, I dominion Superintendent. LITERATURE Leaflets —leaflets—leaflets. W e should all be busy advertising our great ideal, THE ABOLITION OF THE LIQUOR TRAFFIC: FOR GOD, FOR HOME PROTECTION, FOR THE UPLIFT OF HUMANITY, FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE RACE. Now is the time. Sow the seed in every home. Make the people THINK, (live them the evidence. Proclaim the facts. See literature advertisement, page 8. “ BULLETIN ” 4 ‘ Bulletin ” subscriptions should be sent to Mrs. C. Y. Knapp, Moncrieff Avenue, Nelson. Receipts for subs, w ill be sint with the next “ Bulletin.” Money has been sent \ia Mrs. Long with list of natne> incomplete. Please advise Mrs. Knapp if there is no acknowledgement within a few days, as receipts per Mrs. Long have been posted already. BIBLE IN SCHOOLS A suggested Plan of Work 1. Ascertain if the schools in your district have Bible instruction —Nelson system, or five-minute opening service. Jf not, contact the local secretary of the Bible in School League, and the Council of Christian Churches, and ask them to approach the Headmaster. 2. Have an address on the subject in your meeting at least once a year, and make special prayer for the success of this w’ork. 3. Support any effort to promote Bible instruction in schools. 4. If possible, make an effort to help financially. 5. If any of your members are at liberty to take lessons in the schools, notify your ministers. They often need help. 6. Very successful essay competitions have been held on.the Bible lessons given, 1,950 children taking part in these. This work could be extended throughout the Dominion. 7. Pray daily with special intention, for the work of this department. N.B.—At the Wellington District
