ELLEN SOPHIA DEARLOVK, NAPIER UNION Another link with the old bush pioneers of the Pahiatua district was severed when Ellen Sophia Dcarlove passed away at Napier, aged 94 years. Nearly 70 years ago Mrs. Dearlow came out from England to join her husband who had preceded her, and had taken up a farm in the Pahiatua bush. E'or many long years, with the true pioneering spirit, they toiled ai the job of making a farm outtof the primeval bush. \\ lien this was accomplished they retired to Hastings, and lived there for some years before mo\mg to Napier about 35 years ago. Mrs. Dearlovc. and her late husband were staunch supporters of the Methodist C hurch all their lives. It was during their early days in Napier that thev played a large part in the prohibition campaigns of those times. They •were chiefly instrumental in raising the tunds that built the Willard Hall in Napier for the W.C.T.U. Mrs. Dearlo\e was buried in the Hastings cemetery with her husband, who predeceased her V years ago. The Ke\. W. G. Henderson officiated at the graveside.—J.H.O.
