LOWER HUTT \ special afternoon was arranged by the Lower Hutt Union on July 23‘h in the form of a Coin” Social, held in the Wesley Infant Schoolroom in aid of "Seamen’s Rests” and the District Executive. A Bring and Buy” stall aas also operated. An interesting fea* t nre was the programme presented hy Mrs. Spencer’s L.T.L., which was exellent in every way, being a credit to themselves and to Mrs. Spencer who ad "iven much time to their training. They meet fortnightly at Mrs. Spencer’s home after school and wonderful work is being done. Nine of the twelve members are entering for the Temperance Examination. The L.TL. has just celebrated its first birthday. \ hearty vote of thanks was passed to the children.

\f rs. Mcßride presided over a good attendance of members and friends despite the very cold, wet day. She also conducted the Devotions. Mrs. Peryman, who was unable to be present, sent the following message: “Have faith and look up to God for victory. Expect victory and you will et it.” Mrs. Mcßride added the words: “There is no victory or glory if you don’t fight.” Pledge was reaffirmed, Songs and recitations were rendered by different friends during the afternoon.
