FOR THE PEACE CONFERENCE

The letter !>elow has been received by the Dominion Officers. They hive ail rgristered their vote and these have been returned to Chicago In such ways as this, we are reminded of our importance as a link in the miglitv chain which spans the globe, the forging of which has been a major work of the past century, the chain of tern perance endeavour *n the cause of (»<>d, Home and Every Land. The letter reads thus:— From Mrs. F.lla Boole, .177 Park side Avenue, Brooklyn, New York January 26th, BMS To the Officers of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union; and to the Presidents of the National W.C.T.U. in the United Nations. Dear Friends, At a meeting of the three World's Officers living in the US. this rcsolu tion was approved and recommended for consideration at the Peace Conference. We suggest that it be adopted by every one of the countries of the United Nations and be presented to the State Department of your own country or whoever may offi:ia!ly represent you at the Peace Conference The original idea for the presenta tion of this resolution came from the fact that when w’e had Prohibition in the U.S A. other countries kept shipping in all kinds of alcoholic liquors. The same difficulty is encountered in the enforcement of narcotic laws. We are all concerned over the traffic in women and children, so that there are really three requests in this resolution, and there is the chance that vve may lie able to secure its insertion. It *'s only a chance but we believe it is worth taking. Will you bring the matter before your National Committee and if they approve, secure the adoption of this resolution at the earliest possible moment * Invite other women’s organisation to join in pr«>moting its adoption We are placing this resolution at the bottom of .he page and hope you will approv e. Faithfully yours, F.LLA BOOLE, President World’s W.C.T.U. To the State Department of The Peace Treaty shall contain a provision for all nations to adhere to conventions controlling the traffic in opium and other dangerous drugs; a provision to respect all law’s enacted by nations for the suppression of the traffic in women and children; a prov ision to res|»ect all laws enacted by nations to control the traffic in beverage alcohol; and a provision requiring the co-operation of all signatories with nations which adhere to treaties and who nu\e laws governing these problems.
