DOMINION VICE-PRESI-DENTS LETTER

Dear White Ribboners and Fnendi, Dominion Convention it over and delegates have returned to their l nions. The activities for 1945 have been well launched. Just now. we w nder what this year will bring forth. We have had o\er five weary \ ars of war, which, has made the work ot the Unions very difficult, hut, thank Dod, victory is in sight. We rejoice that we can now look forward to the cessation of hostilities with more Conti lence; hut w lien the war ends we must not think that our work will Ik any less difficult. War found us strugfiling with many grave problems, and War increased those problems. Many ot our young people have learned to drink. Our voting men have had strong drink thrust upon them in the camps. Many hosts and hostesses verve it socially and we know that at times it Incomes hard for our young people to resist. The pity of it is that t*kj many parents are taking an indifferent attitude towards the whole matter. Yes. strong drink is making heavy demands on young New Zealanders. We know, sisters, that the liquor interests have fastened themselves even more securely u|>on our nation than ever liefore. 'We have a Royal Commission sitting in New Zealand cm Licensing Laws and although the evidence given by the temperance forces is strong against the traffic it appears tiiat extended hours, licences in the King Country, gnd many other changes which must have a most adverse effect nn the work of the temperance party arc recommended. I lielieve, more than ever, that Prohibition is the only solution of this r\ il in our land, with the help and trace of our Lord. I read that a statement has been Hgned by Commanders-in-Chicf of the ritisli Navy, Army and Air Force, and it is this: “We commend the (iospel of Christ, our Saviour, for it alone can effectively mould character, control conduct, and solve the problems of icn and nations. Faith in Christ the .ord, and obedience to His will as revealed in the Bible, ensures Peace of Mind and brings satisfaction in service to Cod an«l man.—(Signed) Andrew Cuningharn, Admiral of tlie Meet and First N ea Lord; lack C. Tovey, Admiral; I. R. Alexander, (ieneral; B. Paget, (■encral; K. L. George. Air Marshall.** Yes, it is the only way, I feel honoured to have !>cen elected our Dominion Vice-President, and ex'end to all White Ribboners my warm reetings. Yours in service, AMY KASPER.
