The 76th Annual Convention of National W.C.T.U. met on September 1519, 1 ( *44, in Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. Colvin, president of N.Y. W.C.T.U., and National vice-president-at-large, was elected National I’resident, after Mrs. Ida B. Wise Smith, who held that high office for the past eleven years, announced her retirement. Mrs. Smith’s retirement came as a complete surprise, and moved almost everyo.ie to tears in the large audience of ove r 1,000 persons. She gave as her reason for retirement that "eleven years is long enough for anyone to hold office ” For twenty years Mrs. Smith was State I’resident for lowa W.C.T.U., becoming president in 1933. . . . Mrs. Colvin will bring to her new office vast knowledge and experience in W.C.T.U. administration. . . . We look for a great future for the W.C.T.U. under Mrs. Colvin’s leadership. Her husband, president ot the National Reform League, with her, "tarts for the recovery of National ftohibitiou. The movement for the adoption of the lKth Amendment was launched at a Convention in Columbus 30 years ago. It won then—it will again.
