The Christ Child rame to Earth

At the Passover Feast in Jerusalem certain -Greeks were there and they cantc to Phillip saying: “Sir! We would see Jesus.” To-day this same cry is heard from many whose hearts a r e weary with a world strife. And upon each Christian inan and woman rests the responsibility, in anwer to this cry, to show forth the Christ Spirit in our lives. To-day many are failing to see Jesus. Can we not help them by keeping our lamp of life burning brightly by close connection with

the great power house of the Universe? Let us turn aside for a brief period and see Jesus. He came a little child, to a lowly maiden in a manger. But the glorious heavenly host accompanied him so near to earth that shepherds, watching their flocks upon the hills, saw the flashing of their silvery wings and caught the music of their song of peace on earth. Let us also lift our eyes from earth and its evils and catch a glimpse of the glorious host who accompanied the Christ Child to Earth. We, too, would see Jesus! He came by prophets long foretold, a child, a youth working in a carpenter’s shop, discussing with doctors of law in the temple, and asking his mother. “Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? ” As a man he went about doing good, heabng the sick, raising the dead, blessing little children. He died upon the Cross, his life laid down, by his own will, for the sake of others. “He saved others, Himself he could not save.” Neither can his followers save themselves and save others. As the poet beauti-

tuny puts tne 'amc truth which the Roman Go\emor in ridicule placed upon the Cross. “Love took up the harp of life, and smote on all the chords with might; Smote the chord of Self, that, trembling, pass’d in music out o; sight.” But death had no power to keep Him, and He rose aittin. As in thought we visit to-day that empty tomb how

loudly it speaks to us of a risen Christ, and repeat* His promise: “Lo, 1 am with you always even to the consummation of the ages." In every point the prophecies, spoken so long before, were fulfilled. A suffering servant and a saviour of the world came to earth as a little babe. .But these prophecies also spoke of a return to earth not as a helpless child, but as a king to reign and rule. And as literally as the prophecies of his coming were ful-

filled, so will those of a second coming be fulfilled. How He will come we know not. In spite of all prophecies the Jews failed to see Jesus as their promised Messiah. May we so prepare ourselves for His coming that we may not fail to recognise the King of Righteousness. How to prepare for His coming ! By placing our lives in His keeping that His will may be perfectly done through us. Look beyond the chaos, the hatred and cruelty of the present with a sure faith that “The Lord God omnijHiten’ reigneth,” and that evil win he overcome and placed bene vth the feet of the Conqueror. “It came upon a midnight clear, That glorious song of old. Beneath the angel strain have rolled Two thousand years of wrong. But lo! the days are hastening on, •By prophet bards foretold, W hen peace shall over all the earth Its ancient splendours fling, And the whole world give back the song Which now the angels sing. Greetings! God Bles* You All!

• • To all our readers the Editor send Christmas Greetings. May the peace of God dwell in all our hearts, may we leave our dear ones in desert, air, or on the sea. lovingly in the care of their Heavenly hat her. May those who mourn take comfort from the tliomTt t-iat their loved ones followed the Master’s example and gave their lives for others. Greater love hath no man, than this that a man lay down his life for Ins friends.
