FROM OVERSEAS.

Niue Island, 23rd October, 1941. Dear Mrs. Peryman,— Fancy, another year lias almost passed away. We have been waiting our chance to come over to N.Z., b;:t the war stands in the way. We have been suffering with the shortage of water; we have had no rain for six months and the water supply was very low. The people had to go to the caves for water. The vegetation was simply withered away, food was scarce, and the people began to lose heart. Last week it rained on two days and our tanks were filled once more, and the grass is now’ green instead of dead brown. We hope we will soon have plenty of food. Two of our members are leaving for N.Z. We gave them a farewell and wished them God-speed. No doubt they will meet some of our N.Z. White Ribboners. Marion Foufou is a young “Y” memtx r. She is of age, and has left the “Y s” and joined the W.C.T.U. She will bt staying with her aunt in Auckland, and I would like her very much to meet Miss McLay. L. Gilbert Kose will join her husband at Frankton.

I am sending yoi: ten shillings for our President's (Mrs. Taylor) subscription of the "Wl ite Ribbon” paper with her appreciation. The members here are trying to do their best to help the needy, especially in this time when there is a shortage of food. We did not hold our annual meeting this year on account of no water and the shortage of food. The hurricane has destroyed the gardens and has shaken all the nuts off the coconut trees. It is very hard now to find a ripe coconut; the trees are beginning to hear, but they cannot grow without water. Niue will be short of food for quite a while yet. Well, I think 1 will close now. Greetings from Niue White Ribbon branch. Best regards from Mr. Head and much Christian love to your dear self. Wishing you all success for the closing year and a new zeal for the coming year. Yours in the Master’s service, MALAMA V. HEAD. V*
