CHURCH PAPER URGES WOMEN JOIN W.C.T.U.
Wild* the National Woman's Christian Temperance I'nion is in annual session, In Atlantic City, we deem it a veiy opportune time to urge Evangelical women to identify themselves with this duly great organisation and give it their hearty und enthusiastic support. No tempeiance organisation has U t-n more sane, more persistent and more resourceful in its attack upon the legalised liquor traffic and alii***! evil ft rces than th* W.C.T.I’. And we may further add, that none has relied more conscientiously and devotedly upon «.i\iue guidance and leadership. We attribute no small measure of their success to this fact. Their conventions, as we have previously noted, are great devotional gatherings where prayer is given a major part in their programmes and messages from the Bible an a daily feature. The W.C.T.I’. hus occasionally l>e**n laughed at —not by anyone of intelligen<e. It has sometimes been discount - <d not by anyone who is wise. It has often been treated with contempt not by anyone of disrretion. It has always b**en hated and despised- not by any on** of high motive and concern for th* good. Hut, in spite of all opposition, it has fought gloriously and steadfastly on, and to-day there is no organisation which has more of threat foi the legalised liquor tnifflc than this time-tried, war-scarred, | u re.sou led, battle-minded group of women who, whatever reverses they must face, will not cease fighting until this nation shall permanently Is freed from the damnable liquor traffic. Let our women join tile While KihIsuiers, and our preachers give them hearty support. I he> stand for rightcousins- and |M*uce ami the Kingdom of bixl. “Kvengelical Messenger."
