TARANAKI DISTRICT CONVENTION.

The Taranaki W.C.T.I’. Convention which met this year in Stratford was called to order on February 28th by the President, Mrs. Phillips. Tla* numl»er of delegates responding to the roll call was the same as that of last year, and In addition to these there were present, chiefly in the afternoon session, a goodly number of visitors. Miss McLuy was warmly welcomed bark and conducted the opening devotions, giving a very helpful message from the 21st chapter of St. John. Then followed th** reports of the local I’nions. ami these spoke of faithful work of many kinds accomplished, while Waitara had specialised in Home Meetings, Inglewood in efforts regarding the Bible in Schools, New Plymouth ami Hawern in Peace efforts All Unions reported sending cakes and goods to last year's Jubilee Pair. I Hse motions arose on the various departments and stress was laid on the importune** of selecting an«l distributing suitable literature in the cause of Purity. Croat concern was expressed about th** alcohol sweets..and the remit of tin* Dominion Convention, asking that inquiries be made into the matter, was strongly supported. A good report was Riven of the Seamen's Rest, and the 1 nions were reminded that it is a Taranaki institution and therefore the responsihility of all. The afternoon devotions were conducted l>\ th«* ehief Salvation Army officer, who rave an appreciate*l talk **n ‘Courage.’’ Miss McLay then gave u ialk on her experiences ill Stockholm and the leading women she met there,

and told us many thrilling things she heard and saw. Her address was highly appreciated and will stir us all to mor* determined efforts in our great Temperance cause. Just before the election of officers Miss Mel ay paid a warm tribut, to .Mrs. Phillips for all she had done dining so many years in W.C.T.I’, work .-.ml assured her that *>ur Unions greatly ;i I predated her long and faithful service. The election of off.cers resulted as follows: President, Miss Drew ; Vie President, Mrs. Arthur; Cor. Sec., Mi Hartmann; It****. S***\, Mrs. Hayward Treus., Mrs. Tarrant.
