UNEMPLOYMENT FUND.
We are pleased to notice that Wo- " ''ii s Societies are asking for a sta* i: at of accounts showing how the I n • mployment Funds are >»eing spent "Ii s statement is long overdue, aiv' *! P's should press for it as soon n"« <>s«vb!e aft* r the assembling of Partin nient. Why does the Minister hesitate to publish the tatement of account and «>lear away the atninstdie** 0 of doubt and uncertainty and put an en 1 to rumour’s tongue. Women are vital!' concerned in th's and should use evorv legitimate means to press for a complete statement.
The public supply the funds, many of them feeline: the pinch of paying 1/m the pound out ot very small incomes Many women on small salaries an* pa> ing, not out of their abundance, but from their own deep need are giving, and most give without murmur, while they believe that the money is lieing used for those worse off than themselves. Rut why tax small incomes to subst dise wealthy companies, and allow them to get cheap jolxs done? Why use nione' so hardly earned to advance a thin) mortgage on hotel property? Are third mortgages of any value to-day? Would any member of Unemployment Boa pi advance his own money on such security? We hope that all Women’s Societies will keep on demanding such a statement of expenditure until the\ obtain it. And if this Government refuses to furnish details of how they have u®ed money given for one sp*»cinl purpose only, then it is time another Government was placed in charge of the national funds; a Government which will render an account of its stewardship to the people who have contributed the money.
