IN MEMORIAM

MISS Lor IK ROWSELL. The recent pasting away of Miss Louie Rowsell severs another close link with the brave hand of early pioneers who settled at Maungaturoto, Kaipara. and transformed the then dense forest into the beautiful and fertile district it is to-day. In the year 18 1 9 Miss Rowsell was lx>rn at Maungaturoto, and from earliest childhood till middle age constantly resided there, and wholeheartedly helped her parents, the late Mr and Mrs W. Kowsell. who for over 10 years acted respectively as mail contractor and postmistress, and were ever ready to help anyone who needed assistance, for which they gained a farreaching esteem and affection. Prom early girlhood Miss Rowsell took an active part in all Temperance and Band of Hope work. As a member of the W.C.T.U. she gave her best, as a very capable Secretary and Corresponding Secretary of Whnngarei Branch for a number of years, and ably acted as delegate at Annual W.C.T.U. Conventions. Like her revered mother, she was ever ready to help the sick and needy, and many, from far and near, found her a loyal and true friend. She was a life-long member of the Congregational Church, in which she took a very helpful part. She was laid to rest in the Pioneers’ Cemetery at Maungaturoto, many who knew her attending to show the esteem in which she was held. A most impressive and beautiful service was held Just previous in the Congregational Church, and kindly reference was made to her high ideals.
