WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE'S A WAY.

From Onehunga comes the f> Mowing: "This is to tell you how I raised £5 for our Union in three months. I started an autograph supper cloth. 1 got a yard of good unbleached calico (1/1 yard), and ruled it off in 6in. squares, and then from corner to corner, thus making each square into triangles. I charged 3d a name. Each one wrote it in pencil, and I worked it in in royal blue stranded cotton. 1 also worked in the lines, then got a band of royal blue britway hemstitched all round (stitched in white). I have only had about a dozen refusals, and I have now the 400 names on It (except eight), and I’ll get them in a day or two. I set out to get the 400 names on—that would bring in £5. I paid our Union £3 10s before we closed in December, and yesterday paid them in the other £1 10s (as I have only the eight names to get). It has taken a lot of talking to tell folks just what \ wanted it for, etc., and a lot of stitching. One lady worked one letter for me. I have done all the rest, and I am a very busy woman with other things to do. but I thought I’d pass this

on, as it may help you to keep on keeping on. It’s just wonderful what the nimble 3d will do if we can only get enough of them together. Now the cloth is mine, as 1 have bought all the material and done all the work. Many have been the questions as to what I intend to do with it, several asking it it were to be raffled, to which 1 gave a loud “NO.” we do not believe in raffles, etc. I tell them I will sell it outright for £5, but unless I get that 1 will keep it and use it myself. 1 know about eight or nine others have taken on the autograph cloth since they have seen mine. I started it on September 26. so it has averaged £1 per month, but I’m glad it’s done, as I have other things to do now.
