NORTH CANTERBURY. Feb. 11. Mrs Richards presided over representatives from 12 Adult and threg Y Unions. The question of publicity was fully discussed, and a sub-eomniit-tee nominated to collect Temperance facts and flgu Mrs lx>wery appointed Convener, and also Superintendent of “School of Methods." Y work was discussed, and Mrs Swtuistou appointed to represent the Executive on the Y Special Committee. Decided to forward remits on widows' and invalid pensions to the Dominion Convention. Mrs Richards to represent District Unions at Convention. AUCKLAND. March 3. Mrs Morgan Richards (Vice-President) presided. Business for the forthcoming Convention discussed, and further remits submitted. Motions of protest were unanimously passed: (1) Against the unsuitable pictures being shown in the interests of children, and it was further considered that the time was overdue for a more rigid censorship of that class of picture. (2) Against the authorising of sports grounds being opened for games, also the running of excursion trains on Sun<lays. The meeting extended its hearty congratulations to Mi's Benrfell on her appointment as J.P. TARANAKI A most enjoyable time was spent by the above at the home of Mrs M. T Phillips (District President). Brecon Road, Stratford, on Thursday. February 27th. The day was beautifully fine, and Mr and Mrs Phillips made everyone feel at home by their kindness and attention The morning session, attended by 40 delegates, was opened w’ith devotional exercises, when Mrs Phillips re>ad and spoke on Psalm 23. Minutes of last meeting read by Mrs Hayward (District Recording Secretary'). A very encouraging report was received of the New Plymouth Seamen's Rest work. Its usefulness was being proved by the spiritual and soda! work carried on. Tts financial position was good. A Carden Party by Mrs Douglas, of New Plymouth, brought In. £r.!. and many Unions, factories and others had given monetary

help. £SO wa*s in hand towards a wireless equipment. Bible in Schools rei>ort shewed that Inglewood Dint riot and Stratford schools have weekly Bible instruction. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mr Patterson on the loss of his wife, and to Mr Uonrie on the loss of his wife. The appointment of Miss L. Valentine us the leader of the Fitzroy Y’s was confirmed. The Unions were advised to push sale of Egmont Exercise Books (Temperance teaching inside cover). Noontide was then observed with prayer by Mrs Phillips. A discussion on Temperance Charts for schools then followed. Miss Drew, M.A., a New Plymouth W.C.T.U. member, had interviews! Mr McKenzie, Chief Inspector of Schools in Taranaki, and he considered the charts very suitable. Price of charts, 5/- each. Some schools and Y Branches reported having them, but about 160 more needed. The resignation of Mrs X. Jones (District Corresi>onding Secretary) was then taken. Members s)>oke appreciation of her long and loyal service in th» W.C.T.U., and of her fine work in the New Plymouth Seamens Rost movement. Best wishes were" expressed for her visit to Britain. Nominations for her successor placed Mrs Simpson, of Hawera, in that position. Adjournment was then made for lunch, w’hich was partaken of under canvas on. the lawm. Afternoon session (60 present) oj*ened with hymn, and prayer by Mrs H. Stampers, and Bible reading by Mrs Emmett. Remits for Convention w r ere discussed. objectionable posters, drinking at cabarets, preparation for next poll, being the most important. T>tter of appreciation to be sent to the Dominion Convention for Mrs Evans (Dominion Recording Secretary’), and Miss Kirk was nominated for that office. Several members then read papers on “Answered Prayer,” “Prohibition in Other TAnds,” “Home Blessings,” “Apt Sayings,” etc. The meeting then took the opportunity’ of bidding farewell to Mrs X.
