The White Ribbon “For God, and Home, and Humanity.” WELLINGTON, MARCH 19, 1928. THE DOUBLE STANDARD.

The police, at meeting of Licensing Committee, expressed their indignation against cert tin hot* Is in Auckland where women are allowed to congregate and drink, also men and women had been observed drinking in the same room. The police expressed regret that women should

spend money in drink which was required in the homes. We heartily congratulate the police upon their tine stand for wholesome and good civic life. Hut we wish they had gone further. It is just as bad for men to spend money in drink that is needed by their family. Also there is no need to prohibit men and women meeting together if there is no drink Drink is the culprit, and should be punished by outlawry. The double standard will no longer be Unrated, there is to be a levelling. *s it to be levelling up or down? Women must insist upon men coining up to the standard which they themselves set up for their wi\es and daughters, or in *’feat sadness we say it, women will be dragged to the »ower level. WOMEN JUSTICES. We ate pleased to note in the new list o'i Justices the names of eight women. Seven of these are wellknown White Ribboners. Mrs Collins and Mrs Crabb, of Paimerston North were both officers of that Union, and Mrs Crabb an exDomini »*i officer. Miss G. A. Drew, of New Plymouth, is Secretary of the Unior and is to represent it at this Convention. Miss Harband is a local officer as well as District Secretary for North Canterbury. Miss Henderson, known to all White Ribboners for her splendid service as Domin' Cor. Secretary. Mrs I. M. G. J nes is President of Hamilton V lon. and also Waikato’s District President. Mrs Watson is a White Rlbboner of long standing, and is Nelson’s President. The eighth lady appointed i* Mrs Cochrane, of Te Kuiti. HON MARK COHEN. It was with deep, personal regret that we heard of the passing of Hon Mark Cohen. He was ever a warfu friend to the woman’s cause, a strong advocate for Woman's Franchise, and by voice and pen ever urged her claims to equality of opportunity. He long urged the appointment of Women Police, Women Jurors, and Women Magistrates.
