PRESENTATION TO MRS PEPPERELL.
A very pleasant afternoon was spent at St. Mark’s Vicarage on Thursday, when the members of the W.C.T.U. met to bid farewell to Mrs Pepperell. Between 30 and 40 ladies were present, and enjoyed musical items contributed by Mrs Irwin, pianoforte solo; Mrs E. Ordish, mandolin solo; Mrs Kaine, song; Miss Reynolds, recitation. Mrs Irwin played the accompaniments. With a delightful little speech, Mrs Raine presented Mrs Pepperell with a charming posy of violets and primroses (made by Miss Reynolds). Mrs Tyler wished Mrs Pepperell Godspeed, and spoke of the help she had been to the Union. The President then eulogised Mrs Pepperell’s work for the Union, and on behalf of members, presented her with three cut-glass vases. Mrs Pepperell replied, and with much feeling thanked the ladies for their kindly thoughts and gifts, after which the members toasted their guest with musical honours. All then adjourned to the dining-room, where a dainty afternoon tea w’as served. On returning to the draw-ing-room, Mrs Cotter proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Raine for her generous hospitality.
