NORTH CANTERBURY. July 20th, at 10.b0 a.iu. in tin* W.C.T.U. Rooms. Mrs T. K. Taylor presided, and delegates att< nded from Belfast, New Brighton, South Brighton, North Beach, Christc lunch, kaiaroi, Lyttelton, ffangiora. Sefton, Rtccarton, Sydenham, Springston, Lincoln, Spreydon, Opawa. Woolston, Tempelton, North Beach, New Brighton; Rangiora Y’s. wen also represented. Correspondence was received from Mrs Ella Boole, of New York. Sup erintendent of World’s Peace, suggesting that correspondence he arranged between members of the United Stall's and of the New Zealand Union, when subjects of interest to both could he exchanged at intervals am! facts verified. Three members of the Executive volunteered to correspond in this way. Miss B. Harhand gave an interesting report of the N.Z. Alliance Annual Meeting. Executive entertained the officers and superintendents of Unions at luncheon, about seventy attending. The afternoon session was devoted to reports on Anti-Gambling. Legal and Parliamentary, Good Citizenship. Medical, Temperance, Cradh Roll, Bands of Hope, Philanthropic, Back-Blocks, and L.T.L. The Superintendent of Ba.*«:Illocks reported large parcels of books, magazines and papers sent every month to men in Public Works' camps, Harper River, mines ami Santatorium. Sumner, Lyttelton. Papanui, Rangiora, Sydenham, Rio carton and Styx are actively engag ed in Band of Hope work, and ;• number of Unions give prizes for Temperance essays. The Cradle Roll reports were excellent and showed a large increase of members. Miss Henderson reported on the Legal and Parliamentary Department, pointing out the great necessity for every Union to watch the daily papers and Bills that come before the House during the session. The proposed amendments to the Gaming Bill were briefly explained, and Unions were urged to send strong protests to their several Members of Parliament. Mrs Taylor spoke on the great importance of increased membership.
