TO THE PRESIDENTS OF LOCAL UNIONS.

Dear Sisters, — As 1 travel ulxnit the Dominion, coming into contact, us 1 do, with a large uumilht of locul L'nions, 1 am rnucli concerned by the fart that there are a great many details of our work and constitution not well enough understood by the officers and meniliers of our Union in New Zealand. Questions of flnaiiriul obligations, correct procedure, a good working knowledge of our constitution, and the wide significance of some of our departments of work, are some of the matters on which many of us require a lot of information and education. Last year your N.Z. officers, organisers, and others travelled ulxmt a great deal, and did all they could to get into touch with as many individual Unions and members us |K>s.sibh\ and to In* on the spot to expluin these things personally. Rut it is not possible to go into all the details thut may be troubling Unions, either by personal visits letters, the “White Ribbon, ’ or otherwise. The only place where this can lie done effectively and to the largest numlier is at Dominion Convention. 1 therefore appeul to you, as the heads of each local Union, ami responsible for its policy, to make it your business to see that your Union is represented at Convention in Auckland next March, if it is at all pos sible. If you wish for information or a ruling on any matter, however small it may be, your delegate is entitled to ask for and receive such information. Under the new Constitution, proxies are not allowed, hut you may appoint any member of any Union in your District to act as delegute for you. So please every Union make a big effort to be represented at Convention, and ask your delegate to report all instructions and information to you at the very earliest opportunity. Make no mistake, sisters, your local work cannot possibly lie as effective as It might be If you are not kept in close touch with what is going on elsewhere, both in our own land and in other countries.
