DISTRICT EXECUTIVE.

The North Canterbury District W.C. T.U. met on August sth, Mrs T. E. Taylor presiding over representatives from Christchurch. New Brighton, Sumner, Sydenham, Opawa, Spreydon, Papa nui, Riccarton, Belfast, Kaiapoi, Rangiora, Oxford, Sefton, Cheviot, Teinpelton, Springston, and Greymouth. A

number of encouraging reports were read of active work, and a large number of home and young people's meetings held in town and country districts. Mrs Taylor reported on her meetings held at Akaroa and Little River in July, and Miss Henderson that a Union had been formed at Westport by Mrs W. J. Williams, who is holding meetings and organising on the West Coast. Miss Henderson also reported a meeting at Weodon’s, when twelve women had joined up with the Templeton Union. Mr S. I. Royds, President of Alliance, spoke during the morning on the work and objective of the Alliance, and asked for the help and co-operation of the several Unions whenever possible. A large lumber of the silent vote cards were taken by the members of the Executive.

The following resolution was passed: —•‘The Executive of the North Canter, bury District W.C.T.U. express their indignation that no action has been taken in the direction of prosecuting the licensee of the Occidental Hotel, who supplied liquor to two young girls, who were subsequently charged at the Police Court.

Votes of sympathy were passed with the family of the late Mrs Morley Palmer, one of the most active workers in the Opawa Union, and for many years a subscriber to the “White Ribbon” paper, and member of the Christchurch Union. Regret was also expressed on the passing of the Rev. HufTadine, and a vote of sympathy passed with the family.
