HOSTEL, REST AND REFRESHMENT.

(Supt.: Mrs Upton.) Hastings.—A Mothers' Rest Room is proving a great boom to the women of Hastings. About one hundred persons a day make use of the room. Cups of tea or cocoa are supplied to mothers, or girls with their lunch, at a small fee. A capable matron is in charge, and the financial position is good.

Feilding.—A Rest Room has been fitted up with gas ring for heating babies food, lockers for parcels, wash-hand basin, towels, etc. The Borough Council, and Farmers' Union, also Salvation Army have come to the Union’s assistance to get this Rest Room established. Opotiki.—For some months the Union have been trying to establish a Ladies’ Rest Room, but so far without success, owing to lack of accommodation. Manaia. —Held one Rest and Refreshment Rooth. Oxford. —Catered for the A. and P. Show’, and gave one afternoon tea for “The Save the Children’s Fund.” Wanganui.—lt is the wish of the Unions forming this district that a Hostel for Women, under the auspices of the W.C.T.U., be opened before long, v and to this end workers have been busy raising funds for a sale of gifts, street stalls, etc. A visit from Mrs Crabbe, Dominion Vice-President, was very helpful. Kaiapoi. Lent their rooms through the winter for the Young Women’s Ambulance Classes, which were carried on under the auspices of the W.C.T.U. The rooms were also let for a boy’s social club, under the supervision of the W.C.T.U. Invercargill.—Yv’ith the assistance of the Y Branch afternoon tea was dispensed at the Agricultural Show’, also afternoon tea at the Sale of Work for the Victoria Home. Nelson.—This Union was successful after a hard battle in getting the Council's sanction that Rest Room be established in Nelson. A room was procured and about eighty pounds was spent in fitting it up. The room w'as opened in November. 1919. and no charge was made. 1920: The Council have now’ decided to have a caretaker at 30/- a week to be tried for three months. No charge to bo made. Christchurch. —A deputation from all Women’s Societies of Christchurch waited on the Mayor and Councillors to discuss the question of Ihiblic Rest Rooms for the city. The deputation was sympathetically received, but nothing practical eventuated. The W.C.T.U. helped the St. John’s Ambulance Society with the Rest Room provided by that Society during the visit of the Prince of Wales to the city. Luncheon and tea rooms were held at the A. and P. Show. Tea was dispensed at the W.C.T.U. Rooms on the Show Ground at the Garrison Athletic Sports. Palmerston North.—Ran a coffee stall for four days at the Winter Show. Sixty pounds was netted for the Willard Home.
