In a session of the Vienna Town Council, held on June 12th. for the first time in Austria a woman presided, when Frau Amalie Seidi took the Burgomaster’s chair as his deputy. During 1919 no meeting of the Council was held, as a quotum of men could not be obtained. But so fat the women elected for 1920 have not missed a meeting. Travancore is the first State in India to grant voting powers to women on the same conditions as they have been given to men. Under the Reform Bill the new Legislative Councils were granted power to extend the franchise to women. Madras Council has excluded women from the franchise. The Government of Tndia has appointed Mrs Prvsdale as Advisory Directress of Female Education at a salary of 800 rupees per month. SOUTH AFRICA.
