BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

Eleven Vnions sent reports, viz., Warkworth, Auckland (2), Ngaere, In*

vereargill, New Plymouth, Wellington South, Timaru, Pahiatua, Christchurch, and (iisborne. Invercargill passed no resolution*, but canvassed for the Bible in Si hools League, as well as taking part in a large Bible in Schools pageant conducted by Mrs Lee-Cowie. Auckland did >c me strenuous work for the Bible in Schools League. Took part 111 procession under the auspices of the League, and devoted much time* and energy during the* \e.ir to this cause. New Plymouth, Christchurch, and Paniatua repoit nothing done; while* Ngaere, although doing nothing, '.i\that “.ill member* are anxiou* lor the Bible in Schools, but not all agreed a* to system.” Wark worth set a| art one afternoon for the Bible in Sc hools, and took up a collection in aid of the* funds (whether for the funds of the Cnion or tne Bible in Sc hools i> not stated). Timaru |)a-*cd a resolution in fa vour of the Bible in Sc hools League*, and forwarded copies to the Cabinet Mini*tt*rs and to the* Secretary of the* League; al*o helped to procure signatures for the Bible in Schools League.

Wellington South. The local Super intendent reports having distributed literature, end spoken at mothers’ meetings of the* necessity for u* as women and mothers to do all in our power to have the* Word of (iod read by our childre n 111 the* schools. Cisbcrne voted one guinea to the funds of the Voluntary Bible Teachers’ Association, and four of their W.C.T.C. members are teaching in the schools under this Association. The Nelson system has worked successfully 111 <i 1-borne* for a good many years. I would like to urge upon our Cnions the importance of thi" depart ment, and appoint local Superintendents. Several have report'd no work done and no Superintendent. Arc* our Cnions alive to the fact that in our midst main children aic* ing up in total ignorance of the Bible? In many of our home" it n a closed book, the e hildien taught that Sabbath i* for plea*ure in*tead of a time* to worship (iod and study His Word. The children need the* Bible now a" never before. Arc* we doing our part to sec* that they get it? The mini"ters now have the opportunity to give Bible lc*S"ons in our schools, and a great responsibility rc*"ts upon them if they neglect it. Could we not urge that a Voluntary Bible Teacher*’ Assoc iation be* formed in all our towns, and our Cnions follow the generou* example of the* (iisborne Cnion, and he*!p to support them from our funds? May our children grow up to have it said of* them, as of Timothy, “From .y child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures.” Let us do our part to bring it about. S. HOrLDEHj Pom. Supt. Bible in Schools.
