Signing the Pledge-Good Results.
A scheme for dealing with casual drinks, which has been operating for many years in America, and five years in Victoria, has l;e.n introduced in tilt* Central Police Court, Sydney. The Rev. Hammond, a missioner, conversed with likely men in the Court vard, informing them that if thev sign the pledge for not less than six months, the Magistrate will be informed, a nd that probably he will not convict them. The signatories are visited in their own homes in the same week, and letters of encouragement are sent. Experience in Victoria shows that 25 per cent sign the pledge, whereof Ho per cent, keep the pledge or are not heard of again.
