Dominion Convention.

Christchurch, May Ith, 1911. Madam, In connection with tho resolution passed by ( Ymvention, and recorded on page I of the Convention number of the White Kiiuto.v, to the effect that the expenses of Miss < ’ole, who accompanied our President to Convention, should he paid out of the New Zealand Fund, I should like to draw attention to the fact, that Mrs Cole expressly stated at the time that while she fully appreciated the kindly thoughtfulness which prompted tho members of Convention in passing the resolution, she w ould hand the money back as a donation to the funds of the Union. Our President also instructed me as Treasurer to take no action in the matter, and I am therefore in a position to say that neither Mrs nor Miss Cole have received one penny from the New Zealand Fund, beyond the usual personal travelling expenses of the President herself. May I also point out that the resolution as to sending a telegram to Mr Cole, expressing upprociution of his kindness in sparing Mrs and Miss Cole for so long at Convention, is somewhat calculated to convey a false impression, siuce this is by no means the first time that Mrs Cole has been away from home for extended periods on Convention business. What was intended, and conveyed to Mr Ctde, was an expression

of appreciation that lie, knowing the risks which our dear President ran in travelling to Convention so soon after a very serious illness, was willing to accept those risks, in order to gi y o her the pleasure of attending the Convention, and us the gratification of seeing her in her accustomed place presiding over our deliberations. —Yours sincerely, Nellie Bexdely, N X. Treas. Phe Convention minutes referred to in the foregoing letter, are expected to ho, and should he, a complete and official account of the proceedings and business of each session. Evidently items of interest were o uitted during tho unavoidable absence of tho Recording Secretary on the last afternoon. The appointment of a minute secretary would have prevented this. The New Zealand Treasurer has called attention to the omission of one important matter. There may ho others. I f reliable data is forwarded to the Recording Secretary, and she thinks it esssential, it can ho added to tho last sessions’ minutes before they an* brought forward to be continued at the tirst session of the next annual Convention.— Kd. White Ribrox.
