Repeal of the C.D. Act.
Dear Sisters, — You will all rejoice to know that the obnoxious C.D. Act lias at last been repealed by our Legislature, and the stigma attached to this Dominion, which allowed such a law to be on its Statute Hooks, has been removed. The W.C.T.U. of New Zealand has agitated for this repeal for many years, and our members may certainly claim that their strenuous efforts have been the means of keeping this matter before Parliament and the Cabinet Ministers, until justice has been done to the women of this Dominion. Many thanks are due to the Prime Minister and the lion. Dr. Findlay for the efforts they made to got the Repeal Rill passed, and we herewith acknowledge our indebtedness to them.
We may now rest satisfied that such a measure as the C.D. Act will never again find its way into our Statute Hooks, aud for the credit of a country which years ago enfranchised its women, we rejoice that such an iniquitous enactment is no longer a standing insult and menace to one-half of its voters.
While congratulating all those whose labours for the repeal have been strenuous and unceasing, let us not forget the early workers in this cause, who first roused the women of this Colony to the realization of the iniquity and indecency of the C.D. Act.
Our Union early recognised that here was an evil that must at once he attacked, and at the First Annual Convention a resolution was passed urging all women to fight for tlie removal of this obnoxious Act from our countries Statute Hooks.
Above all, we thank our Heavenly Father for his mercy towards us, and that He has seen lit to crown our efforts with success. Yours for further service, F. Cole, N.Z. President.
