OFFICIAL CORRESPONDENCE.

Dear Comrades, As matters political are quietl; adjusting themselves, it is advisable that the arrangements made for circulating petitions for the aboliti n of the totalizator should be proceeded with at once, so that they may be ready for presentation at an opportune moment. I hope the obtaining of signatures to tin* petition will be pushed vigorously. Thirty-one thousand names were on the petition circulated in favour of the women's franchise. Let us emulate that splendid service in the cause of reform, and double the number, It is possible, if every member of the Union will do her duty. 1 remain, Yours in the Master's service, F. CJ"LE, Cashmere, N.Z. President. Aug. f>th, lift Hi. Pox 209, P. 0., Christchurch. August 7th, 19 >O. Dkaii Fellow-Workers,— In response to my appeal to the N.Z. Unions to appoint local Superintendents of the Legal and Parliamentary Departments, I have only, so far, received six replies. These are very encouraging, hut the department needs many others who will make its various subjects their special study. And so 1 am waiting for

| the names and addresses of such, and j hope that 1 shall not have to wait long. So long as a single sex disability remains against women on our statute i books to hamper them in their work for moral and social development, for just so long does our department need to work to get that disability removed. I trust that the Anti-Totalisator Petition, so enthusiastically promoted by Mrs Macalister, will receive the wholehearted response it deserves. In ease it has not already been said, 1 would suggest that the canvassing should he methodised. This is especially necessary in the larger towns. Districts should In* planned, and streets allotted, so that no overlapping is done, and no energy wasted. With all good wishes, Yours faithfully, K. \Y. SIIKITAKD, N.Z. Legal and Parliamentary Department.

Dear Sisters, As N.Z. Superintendent of the Evangelistic Department, 1 write enquiring what you are doing in this part the work for the Master. Ido not m»d to remind you that the foundation of this organisation was laid in answer to the earnest prayers of a few women, and (iod has blessed the efforts all along the years that are passed. Let us keep the altar fire burning, am! weary not, and continue to use the mightiest weapon, prayer, through our Advocate the Lord Jesus, by whom alone we have access to (rod. There are three great evils which cause inconceivable sorrov and ruin to the souls of many of those for whom Christ died: Ist, the Drink Traffic; 2nd, Opium Smoking; 3rd, (lamhling. Prayer is specially desired that these three evils may be put down. It is Imped that every member will in everv way endeavour to further the cause of God in your part of the vineyard. Will all local superintendents please send in their reports before the end of January. Yours in the work, M. 11. Kirklvnd. 82, llelleknowes, Koslyn, Dunedin.
