1904 has begun, and the air is filled with war and rumour of war —war between nations, and war, fiscal war, within our own Empire. On which side lies victory ? The answer the Future holds in its own keeping, llut w hat of the war w hich has been waged since time began ? the war between
light and darkness, rght and wrong, love and hate, learning and ignorance, purity and impurity, temperance and intemperance, justice and oppression In this conflict no sense of uncertainty as to results need enfeeble the warrior against error; the knowledge of coming, though perchance yet distant, victory may nerve heart and hand. Oh that all women would rouse from inglorious ease, and, regardless of the as saults of custom and tradition, place themselves in battle array against tht powers of ill! To those prepared to heir and obey the great Captain’s call to service, the New Year comes laden with opportunity and happiness.
