SOCIETIES.
Canterbury Women’s Institute. —A general meeting was held on Nov. 7th. Correspondence was read from the Lytte’ton Borough Council, St, Alhans Borough Council, Cheviot County Council, Rangiora Borough Council, Kaiapoi Borough Council, and Socialist Church in regard to the election of women on Charitable Aid and Hospital Boards. In view of the proximity of the (leneral Elections, questions to l> * put to the various Parliamentary candidates were framed and approved. After a lengthy discussion, the following resolution with reference to Bible reading in schools was passed:—That this Institute fears any interference with the grand system ot free, secular, and compulsory education, and there fore does not approve of the introduction of Bible reading in New Zetland public schools.
