The English Election.-—Although there seems no present probability of Woman's Suffrage in England several women found themselves in possession of the franchise at the recent election, and were prompt to avail themselves of the privilege. The following clippings will l>e read with interest!— “Among the voters for Mr Herbert Gladstone in West Leeds on Thursday was a woman The name on the register appeared and was taken to be that of a man. She presente 1 herself at the polling booth and her vote was accepted. ‘ Three cheers for the lady,' were
given at the Leeds and County Liberal Club, when Mr Herbert Gladstone at midnight acknowledged his majority of 521, and explained that the ‘one’ represented a lady.” —Daily Chronicle , Octol>er 6.
“A lady—Christian name Johanna — voted for Mr Ernest Flower, M.F., in W est Bradford. The returning officer was so surprised when the lady went to vote that he fell back on the Register, and finding her name duly entered, smilingly acquiesced in her vote.”-- Daily Mail , October 5. Another English paper says that through a printer's error in tbe production of the Parliamentary rtgister twelve months ago, twenty women in the Adderley Green colliery district of
Staffordshire (Leek Hi vision), whose names duly appeared therein, were entitled to vote at the Elections.
