The White Ribbon: FOR GOD AND HOME AND HUMANITY MONDAY , FEBRUARY 14, 1897 The Annual W.C.T.U. Convention.
Our annual gathering is to be held in Christchuich on Wednes lay, February 24, and the Christchurch friends are looking forward to welcoming their fellow-workers from the different centres with great pleasure. The fact that Christchurch possesses a climate drier than any of the other large towns make it probable that Convention will be favoured with bright fine weather. May the mental barometer be high and the outlook hopeful! It may reasonably be expected that there will be a large number of delegates this year, as, since last Convention, several new branches have been formed. In Canterbury, Unions have been established at Leeston, Waimate, and Amberley. In Otago, a branch has been formed at Naseby. In the North Island, Wanganui has organised a branch; Midhurst, Toko, Patea,NgJrt, Eltham, and Pungarehu Unions have
been formed by Mrs Collis, organising secretary to the New Plymouth District Union; the Palmerston North and Feilding branches have been revived ; Maori branches have been founded by Mis Hewett at Tauranga, Rotorua, Ohinemutu, Whakarewarewa, and Te Ngae. We have been asked to request that the names of delegates be forwarded as soon as possible to the Christchurch Secretary, Mrs Widdowson, Hereford Street, Linwood, as soon possible.
